Speiereckhütte is the hut on the Grosseck-Speiereck that works in both directions: a ski stop in winter, and in summer the point where a mountain walk turns into an afternoon the children do not want to leave.
Why go
The terrace faces out over the valley, and the bike track is the thing. Wooden ramps and rollers run right along the hut wall, close enough that you can sit with a drink while the kids ride. We have taken ours up more than once for exactly that, and the track is genuinely the reason to go rather than a bolt-on for the view.
A few minutes away, the Freizeitberge play area has a twin zip line strung across the slope, so the day does not depend on the bikes alone.
Good to know
- The hut runs two seasons: roughly December to mid-April, and mid-June to mid-October. The lift company publishes the current dates — check them before setting out, because the shoulder weeks move.
- The mountain is the same one as the Grosseck-Speiereck ski area, reached from the Mauterndorf side.
- Bring a helmet if the children are going to ride; the track is small but it is a real track.
- The ridge above the hut carries a marked path with long views over the valley — a straightforward continuation if you want to walk before eating.
- The terrace, bike track, and play-area photographs used by Alpina are the content owner’s own, taken on visits in August 2024 and August 2026, with children’s faces masked at source.
